Syntax Exchange

Terms of Service

Effective October 2, 2026

The short version
  • Syntax Exchange is free to use for personal practice and in class.
  • Your notes and decks are yours. We only store them to run the app for you.
  • Only import word lists you have the right to use.
  • The app is in beta and provided as is.

1. About these terms

These terms apply when you use Syntax Exchange at syntaxexchange.app (the "app"), built and run by the Syntax Exchange team ("we"). By using the app you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. How we handle personal data is described in our Privacy Policy.

2. Using the app

3. Your content

Notes, decks you create or import, and your session records are your content, and you keep all rights to it. You give us permission to store, copy and display your content only as needed to run the app for you (for example, to sync it to your other devices). We don't use your content for anything else, and we don't sell it.

When you import a deck or word list, you confirm that you have the right to use it. Don't import material you aren't allowed to copy, such as word lists from paid textbooks you don't own the rights to share.

4. Acceptable use

Please don't:

5. Our content

The app's design, games, built-in word lists, prompts and research summaries belong to us or are used with permission. You may use them for your own practice and for teaching. Research cited in the app belongs to its authors.

6. Beta service and changes

The app is in active development. Features may change, be added or be removed, and the service may sometimes be unavailable. We will try not to lose your data, but please export notes you can't afford to lose (Anki, CSV or Markdown export is available in the app).

7. No warranty

The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. It is a practice tool, not a certified course or assessment, and it does not guarantee any learning or exam result.

8. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of data, arising from your use of the app. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

9. Ending your use

You can stop using the app at any time and ask us to delete your account (see the Privacy Policy). We may suspend access for anyone who seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top, and for significant changes tell signed-in users in the app. If you keep using the app after a change, the new terms apply.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, USA.
